The Christchurch Interfaith Society is a voluntary non-profit association of persons representing the diversity of religious communities existing in Christchurch. Its purpose is to foster understanding and good relations, to co-ordinate action, and to mediate between those communities, and to liase with other organisations. The Society regularly elects the Christchurch Inter-Faith Council.

2009 National Interfaith Forum in Auckland

Canterbury Police Open Day

The Canterbury Police have been strong supporters of the Interfaith movement, and are very keen to improve contacts with Christchurch's faith communities.

This public open day at the police headquarters in Hereford Street includes a tour around the station and a chance to meet the Christchurch police team.

Entry by gold coin donation, which will go to support Neighourhood Support and Victim Support.

Liberating Wisdom - A Public Talk by Buddhist Monk Ajahn Tiradhammo

A public talk Liberating Wisdom will be given by Ajahn Tiradhammo, a Buddhist
monk trained in the Thai Forest Tradition of Ajahn Chah.

All are welcome to explore the path to peace and liberation.

Ajahn Tiradhammo was born in British Columbia, Canada, and studied engineering before his extensive years of travelling and practice in Sri Lanka and Thailand. He has lived for over 34 years as a Buddhist monk, and taught for many years in in England, Switzerland and New Zealand.

Birth of the Bab Celebration with the Christchurch Baha'i Community

The Christchurch Baha'i community will be celebrating a holy day to commemorate the birth of the Bab, one of the faith's central figures. Members of all religions will be warmly welcomed.

Week of Prayer for World Peace

The Week of Prayer for World Peace is an international interfaith event that has been observed around the world since 1974.

This year we will be gathering in front of the doors of Christ Church Cathedral in the Square to share prayers and scripture readings from a diverse range of religions. Following this, we will proceed to the Botanical Gardens to ring the Peace Bell.

Interfaith Society Dialogue: "My Life: a Catholic Nun's Experience"

At our next monthly discussion meeting, Sister Bertha Hurley will speak on "My Life, a Catholic Nun's Experience". These dialogues are the main meetings of the Christchurch Interfaith Society, and an excellent opportunity to meet other members of the interfaith community.
